Happy Valentine's Day

Well, hello you look quite lovely today. I wanted to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day! (but only if it’s a celebration you abide by).

I never got the big deal about Valentine’s day, up until this Valentine’s day. I never received the big teddy bears or chocolates or even the wake up to the long paragraphs, there was nothing about Valentine’s day that differed from a regular day. However, this Valentine’s feels different, not because I am going to receive any of those but because I’ve tried to find the beauty within it. I know a lot of couples who probably go day to day, stuck in their routine and this is the only time they have to really appreciate each other from those routines. Also, you have single individuals who find this a time to indulge in self care. To express love whether to others or yourself shouldn’t be hidden, even though if Tik Tok sends me another cute couple on my FYP I may lose it!

It’s a beautiful thing to have love or to feel some sort of love, mainly because I’ve understood how hard it is to love. It’s hard to give yourself to a person with the hopes that they will in return give themselves to you or wake up and look into your mirror and utter words of self acceptance and deep love for yourself. It’s also difficult to see the reality of love and not the picture perfect image we’ve been fed all our lives. It’s hard to look at someone’s love and envy because you want that for yourself.

In terms of queerness I think it’s hard to see the love that others have and wonder if that’s something you’ll ever experience, something that you don’t have to hide or even something that will ever be socially acceptable. The queer motto is “love is love” as if it’s a easy to love, to be in love no matter the circumstances. However, I hope the sad realities of life don’t overshadow the beauty of it. I’ve heard about love that warms you from the inside, that feels like a good day on repeat and love that even on days of grey transcends. To look into the mirror and feel happiness because you’re looking back at one of the most spectacular person in the world and that the body keeps you together (even if it’s by strings) is doing its best. I’m still not a huge Valentine’s day but love is definitely something to celebrate!

This Valentine’s day I’m hoping to have a self care day. Clean the room and have a good meal with a good show and probably fall asleep in the comforts of a good webtoon. How about you? Got any plans with anyone or doing anything or is it just another filled day for you
